Philoptochos
The St. Katherine Philoptochos Society of Christ the Savior Greek Orthodox Church is the philanthropic arm of our parish. In Greek “Philoptochos” means “Friends of the Poor.” Funds are raised for our philanthropic charitable activities from our parishioners through the DINO ADAMIS Philanthropic Fund. Several years ago a Greek Orthodox man from New York was struck and killed while riding a bike on Route 19 in Hernando County. No one could locate his family. Our parish raised the funds for his funeral and burial in the old Brooksville Cemetery, and also erected a modest headstone to mark his grave. His name was DINO ADAMIS. The Church named our philanthropic fund in his memory. The St. Katherine’s Philoptochos Society is involved in many different philanthropic efforts. Our major program is conducted for needy children in cooperation with Suncoast Elementary. We also assist the Dawn Center for abused woman and their children. We hold special events to raise funds for these and other charitable activities to supplement the monthly funds that are given by our parishioners.
